Okay - I'll admit it - up to a short time ago I had never heard of a shampoo bar, so this is the story…
Our oldest daughter has some dear friends who are civil war re-enactors. While discussing our soap making adventure with them , the subject of a "shampoo bar" came up and they asked if we would be able to produce such an item. Well, you can Google anything - so I did. Now, no successful soap maker is just going to give up a dynamite recipe, so I had to figure it out. After trudging through dozens of sites - I got it! I mixed the concoction up, molded it, cut it and set it to cure. Then came the acid test - I actually had to use the product on my 50 year old color-treated hair. I closed my eyes (I was in the shower) and lathered up. It felt beautiful and different - like I'd already put conditioner on it. I blow-dried my hair, tracked the color over several weeks and determined that Paul Mitchell had gotten his last thin dime from me. I no longer use conditioner - but that will depend on each individual hair type. (I wear my hair very short, getting it cut every six weeks.)
Shampoo Bar:
We made the shampoo bar in a square wooden mold (made by Roy) so the shape will differentiate it from your other soaps. There is no added color - only a light oil-based fragrance or no fragrance at all.
The bar is larger than our body bars (5 ½ ounces as compared to 4 ½ ounces). That, combined with the more expensive oils is why it costs a bit more. But when you figure that one bar should give you the same number of shampoos as a 24 - 30 ounce bottle of liquid shampoo, plus many of you will be able to stop buying conditioner, it's a great buy!
Our customer feedback on this item thus far has been overwhelmingly positive. We're hearing stuff like, "You've got a customer for life." And (PANIC!!) "The next batch won't be done until when??!!
