Laundry Soap

Contains a grated bar of our unscented lard cleaning soap and a pre-measured amount of borax and washing soda. The recipe (included in the kit) makes 2 gallons of a heavy gel. You should get 64-72 loads for less than seven cents per load. If you have a high-efficiency or front loading washer, you'll use half the amount of soap per load at half the price! Our family of 11 has been using this exclusively for years. The kit takes only minutes to mix up and is one of the best deals you'll find anywhere!

If you would like to buy your own borax and washing soda, just purchase the cleaning bar and use the recipe included with the bars.

One order provides enough soap to make two batches (4 gallons) of laundry soap.

4½ ounces of “Virginia Soaps & Scents” Cleaning Soap
½ cup washing soda
½ cup borax powder
1 tablespoon fragrance oil (optional)
~You will also need a bucket, 3-5 gallon size~

Grate the soap and put it in a sauce pan. Add 6 cups water and heat until the soap melts. Add the washing soda and the borax and stir until the mixture is dissolved. Remove from heat. Pour 4 cups hot water into the bucket. Now add your soap mixture and stir. Add 22 cups of water and stir (22 cups = 1 gallon plus 6 cups). If using fragrance oil, add now and stir in.

Let the soap sit for about 24 hours and it will gel.

Use ½ cup per load.

The finished soap will be in a gel form. It is a low-sudsing soap, so is great for front-loading washers as well as the top-load variety.

At Virginia Soaps & Scents we pride ourselves on our completely handcrafted products… but occasionally something comes along that we can’t formulate… only God can create it! Soap nuts are just such a product. The dried fruit of the Sapindus Mukorossi berry produces a natural “saponin” (soap). Five or six soap nuts in a muslin wash bag tossed into your washer will wash 5 to 8 loads of laundry. A half pound bag will wash an average of 100 loads! Soap nuts can be boiled in water to create a liquid soap that can be used not only in laundry, but for all types of cleaning jobs both indoors and out as well as for personal and pet care. This is the “ultimate green” way to clean!

One tablespoon of our Country Clothesline fragrance oil per recipe will give your clothes a clean, fresh scent. Our 2 ounce bottle will fragrance up to four batches of laundry soap.
